If you're like us you've probably been itching to travel again. Because COVID-19 has made air travel not as easy, we've decided to take as many day/weekend trips around our area as we possibly can all while social distancing. One of our favorite getaways near the Seattle area is Leavenworth, WA. Since it's closer to Eastern Washington it tends to get warmer, during the summertime and cold and snow during the wintertime. What we love so much about Leavenworth is that it's the perfect getaway no matter the season. We'll go over some of the details and activities that will help you decide which season to visit.
Travel - There are two main routes to get there from the Seattle area (approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes). Highway 2 is going to be the most beautiful scenic route. I-90 East isn't too bad either - but the best part of traveling this route is that you get to stop at Mountain High Hamburgers, a small, yet underrated burger spot that we LOVE.
Stay - Oddly, Airbnb's aren't allowed in Leavenworth so if you're looking for a vacation rental, check out VRBO. If you're more of a hotel stayer there are plenty of hotels right in the heart of town that are great options such as Enzian Inn. Now, if it's just you and your partner, you might want to splurge to experience The Post Hotel. Go to their website NOW and prepare for your jaw to drop. This hotel is luxury at it's finest and is an all adults hotel. They typically only allow you to book a 2-night minimum (for weekend nights), but the trick is to call after 12 AM on the day you want to stay there and they will allow same-day bookings to be booked for 1 night. However, it is risky because they are always booked... Your reservation includes Breakfast, lunch, and spa amenities.
Breakfast - Our favorite breakfast spot the Tumwater Bakery, their coffee is strong and their pastries are divine! J5 Coffee has excellent coffee but their hours make it a little harder to enjoy in the mornings.
Lunch - Blewett Brewing has amazing pizza that you can eat on their patio or any of the benches on Front Street. If you go there you need to try the "Delancey". My mouth literally watered as I typed that... It's that good.
Dinner - you can't go wrong with Munchen Haus. They have a really convenient app that you can order from as well. They are known for their bratwurst so we always get that, along with a pretzel with Beecher's cheese and their freshly squeezed lemonade.
Dessert - this one you don't have to ask me twice about! We all scream for Whistlepunk Ice Cream. You can smell their waffle cones well before you even see their storefront. Their handmade ice cream is a foot above anything else out there. If you go, please bring me back a pint of their delicious sea salt caramel ice cream.
Activities for the summer - Going to the Fish Hatchery, floating down the river, shopping at boutique stores, laying on the "beach", golfing, wine tasting, and getting a ride on the most beautiful Clydesdale horses!
Activities for the Winter - tubing down the hill, backcountry skiing visiting the reindeer, dog sledding, ice skating, and the biggest one of all, the tree lighting festival.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section. We hope you enjoy your stay in the gorgeous town of Leavenworth.
XOXO
